Introducing the new collection by Yorta Yorta Artist, Chloe Jones

We are delighted to introduce our new collaboration with Yorta Yorta artist Chloe Jones.

Chloe has shared her outstanding talent with us at Bupa Optical & Hearing to create a limited-edition Chloe Jones Collection of four frames (two optical and two sunglasses) to celebrate Bupa Foundations new partnership with the Brien Holden Foundation.

The collaboration features Chloe’s celebrated artwork Back to Biami which takes us on a journey through her cultural roots, embodying the sacred and intricate healing practices unique to the Yorta Yorta people.

About the Artist & Artwork

Chloe Jones is a proud Yorta Yorta woman and emerging artist with strong connections in Shepparton and Melbourne.

With a passion for the arts and creative sovereignty, Chloe’s contemporary style embodies Yorta Yorta sovereignty and cultural knowledge. Every line, pattern and colour in Chloe’s artwork is an expression of her relationship to her family and the ways Yorta Yorta people have cared for Country through countless generations. She is proud of her journey as a Yorta Yorta artist and continues to be guided by the strong voices of her community.

Chloe’s artwork Back to Biami, shown below, came from a time of deep healing. She speaks of Biami —the Yorta Yorta creator spirit— as an anchor to the healing spirit of Country. When she feels disconnected, connecting back to Biami grounds her, and allows her to move forward with strength. Chloe hopes that her artwork inspires people to learn more about the stories of Yorta Yorta people. She encourages people to be curious and look more deeply at her people's histories, artwork and culture.

ARTWORK - BACK TO BIAMI, 2023

Artwork story

Back to Biami reflects the healing journeys of my people, the Yorta Yorta, known as the river people, by drawing on the knowledge of traditional healing practices.

The cool blues and greens embody the restorative qualities of our land, while the reds and oranges are the warmth of the sun and the life force flowing through us. These colours embody the spirit that animates all living things, the fire that drives us forward and sustains our creativity and knowledge, allowing our bodies and spirits to heal.

Each line, curve, and shape reflects my traditional linear style, symbolising the dynamic energies of the land, waterways, animals, plants, and people. The cyclical patterns represent the cycles of health, life, and renewal, while the wavy lines echo the movement of the rivers and the land’s energy.

This artwork serves as a reminder that true healing involves reconnecting with Country and traditional practices to restore wellness, especially in challenging times when the need for cultural and spiritual healing is most urgent.

How you can help close the eye health gap

According to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, Indigenous Australians experience higher rates of eye conditions such as cataracts, diabetic retinopathy, and trachoma compared with non-Indigenous Australians (Eye Health in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People report - by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, updated 15/08/2023, v1.0).

To celebrate the launch of Yorta Yorta artist Chloe Jones new collection, Bupa Optical & Hearing will be supporting efforts to target eye health disparities in Indigenous communities, with a focus on near-sightedness (myopia) awareness and prevention. This collection also marks the beginning of a new partnership between the Bupa Foundation and the Brien Holden Foundation, united in the goal of making a meaningful impact on myopia prevention.

Chloe Jones Collection: Until sold out, $25 from every sale^ in this limited-edition range will also go to the Brien Holden Foundation to fund ongoing work in closing the eye health gap in Indigenous communities.
